Why an LLC?

When applying to DIS, I was overwhelmed with all of the different housing choices they had to offer. Many of my friends who have gone abroad had been required to stay in a homestay/ did not have an array of housing options to choose from. A majority of my friends had stayed in home stays- did I want to stay in a homestay? Did I want to live in a kollegium, a residential community, or a folkehøjskole? Or did I want to stay in an LLC, but one that pertains to my major or one that aligns with my hobbies? With so many choices, it can be hard to pick where you might want to live at DIS. After toying with the idea of what it might be like to live in each of these options, I decided to pick the Public Health LLC as my top choice. Maybe you are struggling with picking where you may want to live for your upcoming semester at DIS, and hopefully I can help! Here are some of the many reasons why I chose to live in an LLC:

1. To easily meet people who share a common interest as me! Public health is such a broad topic. In our LLC right now, there are 23 of us with one common interest, healthcare! Not everyone in the LLC is a public health major (you do not have to be a health major to be in the PH LLC, we have a girl who is majoring in art history).
2. To further immerse myself in public health. I am actually one of the few people in my LLC studying public health. However, I feel like I am gaining so much knowledge about healthcare through my fellow LLC mates who are taking different health classes than I am as well as our LLC trips!
3. Unique visits relating to health and wellness outside of a classroom setting. Every Thursday, our LLC meets and we have some kind of activity, discussion, or visit. So far, we have gone to a sauna, met a psychologist, gone on a weekend retreat and participated in parkour! We have some more awesome events coming up throughout the remainder of the semester- like visiting the Danish Family Planning Association, meeting a midwife, and even a neuroscientist.
4. Close location to DIS! A lot of students that I have talked to living in other LLCs live approximately 15/20 minutes from DIS. The public health LLC this semester is right in center city around the corner from DIS! I got very lucky.

So far, I have absolutely no complaints about living in the public health LLC. I have gotten the opportunity to meet so many amazing girls because of my living arrangement. I also have 5 amazing roommates who have easily become my best friends abroad. DIS does a great job of listening to your housing application and really satisfying your requests. My apartment works very well together and I am so grateful to have been paired with such a lovely group of girls.

If you have any inkling to live in an LLC at DIS, I 100% recommend requesting to live in one! I cannot imagine what my experience at DIS would be like without it. I have gotten the chance to meet amazing people while also learning things about healthcare that I would not have been able to without my LLC. You get to be surrounded with a bunch of people who are similar to you and you also get to go on field trips! What’s better than that!? I truly love my LLC and do not regret a second of it!
